A flexo printing machine is a rotary printing system that uses flexible photopolymer plates to transfer ink onto various substrates. It is widely used in packaging, labels, corrugated board, and flexible film printing due to its high speed, cost-effectiveness, and compatibility with water-based, UV, and solvent inks.

The core working principle involves an anilox roller that meters a precise ink film, a doctor blade that removes excess ink, and a plate cylinder that carries the printing plate. The substrate passes between the plate cylinder and an impression cylinder, receiving the inked image. Drying systems then cure the ink instantly, enabling high-speed production up to 600 m/min.

Key technical parameters include printing width (300-2800 mm), line speed (0-600 m/min), repeat length (250-1200 mm), and substrate thickness (0.02-12 mm). Coating accuracy is typically ±0.05 mm, and the machine can handle paper, film, foil, board, and nonwoven materials.

Maintenance is critical for consistent output. Daily tasks include checking anilox rollers for clogging, cleaning doctor blades, and inspecting impression cylinders. Weekly maintenance involves washing ink pans and lubricating moving parts. Monthly calibration of registration sensors and quarterly gearbox inspections ensure long-term reliability.

Flexo printing machines are classified into CI (central impression) presses for high-register film printing, stack presses for board and multi-color jobs, and inline presses that combine printing with converting processes like die-cutting and lamination. Each type suits different production volumes and substrate requirements.

When selecting a flexo printing machine, consider substrate type, desired print quality, production speed, ink system (water-based for paper, UV for films, solvent for industrial), and automation features such as servo drives and auto-register control. Budget and ROI are also key factors, with entry-level stack presses offering lower upfront costs and high-end CI presses delivering superior precision for long runs.
