Plate Cylinder Wear Fault Analysis and Precision Maintenance Calibration Method

This paper classifies common wear and damage faults of flexo plate cylinders, analyzes fault generation causes, and formulates regular maintenance and precision calibration standards to prolong cylinder service life and guarantee printing precision.

Long-term high-speed rotation and repeated plate mounting and dismounting will cause gradual wear and surface damage to flexo plate cylinders. Common faults include surface adhesive residue accumulation, axial surface scratch, bearing wear clearance and repeat length dimensional deviation. These cumulative faults will gradually reduce printing precision if not calibrated regularly.

Bearing wear clearance fault is the key hidden failure of plate cylinder. Long-time rotation wears built-in bearings, producing axial and radial movement clearance of cylinder. The movement clearance directly aggravates cylinder runout error, leading to deteriorated printing stripes and unstable registration effect.

Regular bearing clearance detection and replacement cycle. It is required to detect bearing clearance of plate cylinder every three months. When axial clearance exceeds 0.02mm, bearings need to be replaced immediately to avoid irreversible printing precision loss. Timely bearing maintenance can extend plate cylinder overall service life by more than 25%.

Surface residue cleaning and surface repairing for plate cylinder. Residual adhesive tape glue will accumulate on cylinder surface after repeated plate replacement, affecting cylinder roundness. Regular surface cleaning with special solvent is needed every month; minor surface scratches can be repaired by precision surface polishing without changing overall cylinder dimensional precision.

Repeat length recalibration after long-term cylinder operation. Mechanical wear and thermal deformation change actual cylinder circumference, leading to repeat length deviation. Full electronic repeat length calibration for all plate cylinders is conducted every half a year to unify actual cylinder circumference parameter and eliminate cumulative pattern splicing error.

Plate cylinder storage and daily protection specification. When not in use for a long time, remove printing plate and mounting tape completely, coat anti-rust oil on cylinder surface, and place cylinder horizontally to avoid surface bending deformation caused by long-term vertical placement. Standard daily protection reduces unexpected cylinder damage and maintenance frequency effectively.
