Mechanism of Anilox Cell Blockage and Scientific Hierarchical Cleaning Technology for Flexo Anilox Roller

This technical article analyzes microscopic ink blockage mechanism of anilox microcells,classifies blockage types,and introduces hierarchical offline cleaning processes aiming at mild,moderate and severe cell blockage respectively.

Anilox roller cell blockage is the top hidden cause of gradual color fading in flexo mass production.Dried ink residue accumulates inside microcells after long-term operation,reducing effective ink storage volume step by step.Mild blockage causes slight color density reduction,while severe full cell blockage leads to uneven ink transfer and vertical strip printing defects that cannot be solved by adjusting ink viscosity or printing pressure.

Three types of anilox cell blockage are divided by accumulation degree:surface thin ink film blockage,intermediate cell depth residue blockage and full-cell hardened ink blockage.Different blockage degrees require completely matched cleaning strength;excessive cleaning will damage ceramic cell edges,while insufficient cleaning cannot remove hardened residue thoroughly.

Daily online mild cleaning solves surface ink film accumulation without roller disassembly.Online circulation alkaline cleaning liquid circulates inside ink chamber during machine idle time,softening surface residual ink film within 15 minutes.This no-disassembly cleaning method is suitable for daily shift handover maintenance with low cost and no damage to roller microcell structure.

Offline ultrasonic cleaning aims at moderate depth cell residue blockage.High-frequency ultrasonic cavitation impacts remove softened ink residue deep inside cells without scratching ceramic cell walls.The matched cleaning liquid pH value needs to be controlled between 10.5 and 11.5 to avoid chemical corrosion of ceramic coating.This is the most widely used standard cleaning method for regular monthly maintenance.

Dry laser cleaning is adopted for severe hardened full-cell blockage.Laser energy acts only on ink residue without damaging ceramic roller matrix,removing completely carbonized ink deposits that cannot be cleared by ultrasonic cleaning.It realizes residue removal without liquid contact,suitable for high-line fine anilox rollers vulnerable to liquid corrosion.

Wrong cleaning operation hazards needing avoidance:high-pressure water gun direct flushing causing cell edge breakage;strong acid cleaning liquid leading to ceramic coating peeling;overlong ultrasonic cleaning time resulting in cell wall thinning.Standard hierarchical cleaning can restore more than 96% original ink transfer volume of anilox rollers safely.
