Flexo Press Manufacturer: Quality Assurance and Production Process Standards

The quality of a flexo press is determined not only by its design but also by the manufacturing quality assurance (QA) and production processes. A manufacturer with rigorous QA ensures consistent performance and longevity. This article details the key QA aspects.

Material sourcing: High-quality steel for frames, precision bearings, and coatings are essential. Manufacturers should have certified suppliers and perform incoming inspections (e.g., material certificates, hardness tests). Traceability of critical components is important.

Machining and assembly: The frame is welded and stress-relieved; then it is machined on CNC milling machines with tight tolerances (±0.02 mm). All cylinder bores and mounting surfaces are machined in one setup to ensure alignment. Assembly is done on a precision floor with laser alignment tools. The cylinder axes are checked for parallelism and perpendicularity. The drive train is assembled with measured backlash; shims are used to adjust preload.

Testing and run-in: After assembly, the press undergoes a series of tests: electrical safety, motor function, and mechanical run-in at low speed for several hours. Then, a test run at full speed with a standard substrate is performed, measuring register accuracy, print quality, and drying efficiency. The press must meet guaranteed specifications (e.g., speed, waste) before it is accepted.

Calibration: All sensors (tension, register, temperature) are calibrated with traceable standards. The control system's software is verified. A calibration certificate is provided with the press. Some manufacturers have an in-house metrology lab.

Quality certifications: Look for ISO 9001, and possibly ISO 14001 (environmental). CE marking indicates compliance with European safety standards. Some manufacturers have additional certifications for specific industries (e.g., food safety).

Final inspection: The press is inspected for cosmetics (paint finish, labeling) and all documentation (manuals, electrical schematics) is checked. A final acceptance test (FAT) is performed with the customer present, where the press runs the customer's job at the specified quality and speed. The FAT results are documented.

Packaging and shipping: The press is disassembled into modules, protected with desiccants and shock-absorbing materials, and shipped in containers. The packaging must protect against corrosion and damage during transit.

After-sales support: The manufacturer should provide installation supervision, training, and a warranty. The quality of documentation and the responsiveness of the support team are also indicators of overall quality. By evaluating a manufacturer's QA and production standards, buyers can ensure they receive a reliable, long-lasting flexo press that performs as promised.
