Core Functional Parts Classification and Working Principle of Flexo Printing Press
This technical article classifies all core parts of standard flexo printing machines by functional units, explains independent working principles of key components, marks vulnerable wearable parts, and provides regular inspection standards for daily machine maintenance.
A complete servo flexo printing machine is divided into six core functional modules including unwinding unit, printing unit, drying unit, web guiding unit, rewinding unit and electrical control unit. Each module consists of independent mechanical parts and electrical accessories, and the coordination of all parts decides printing speed, registration accuracy and finished product yield. Missing inspection of any component will lead to machine downtime or continuous printing defects.
The unwinding unit mainly includes air inflation unwinding shaft, tension sensor, brake clutch and buffer dancing roller. These parts jointly control stable raw material feeding speed and constant web tension. The dancing roller compensates instantaneous tension fluctuation during speed acceleration and deceleration to avoid substrate wrinkling or stretching before entering printing stations.

The printing unit is the most critical part assembly containing plate cylinder, anilox roller, doctor blade assembly, impression cylinder and ink circulation chamber. The anilox roller undertakes fixed ink metering task, while the doctor blade scrapes redundant ink to ensure uniform ink layer. The matching clearance between plate cylinder and impression cylinder directly determines printing pressure and dot gain effect.
Drying system parts cover hot air heating pipe, circulating fan, temperature sensor and UV curing lamp. Water-based ink flexo presses use hot air circulation fans, while UV flexo presses rely on high-power UV lamps for instant ink curing. Aging drying fans will cause incomplete ink drying and surface ink adhesion defects in continuous production.
Web guiding and transmission parts include guide rollers, correction electric eye and servo drive motor. The transverse correction electric eye corrects web drift in real time to avoid transverse register deviation. All transmission rollers need regular surface cleaning to prevent ink residue from scratching printing substrates.
Vulnerable wearable parts requiring periodic replacement are doctor blades, anilox roller surface coating, sealing rings of ink chamber and tension sensor rubber pads. These consumable parts have fixed service cycles, and standardized replacement can extend overall machine service life by more than 30% and reduce unplanned downtime effectively.
